What to visit in Saint-Jean-de-Luz?

Saint-Jean-de-Luz has long been called the city of privateers. Indeed, the city was noted for its maritime traditions as early as the 16th century, and for its privateers as early as the 17th century. While staying at the campsite Saint-Jean-de-Luz, many museums and monuments are to be visited absolutely, namely :

  • The Museum of Basque Tradition which is a place of convergence between Basque culture and Basque traditions. It is a museographic space that plunges its visitors into a journey into the heart of the Basque soul and the way of life of an entire people.
  • The Ecomusée Basque Jean-Vier was created in 1999 by the company Jean-Vier, specialist of Basque linen. It offers you ten spaces in which films, two of them in 3D relief, will make you share, for a moment, the Basque exception. Around the ecomuseum, you will discover a carefully maintained park, the Jean-Vier store and a restaurant.
  • The house Louis XIV, built in 1643 by a rich shipowner. Elegance is the term that best characterizes the facade of this house where Louis XIV lived during his marriage with the Infanta of Spain.
  • The Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is a flagship monument of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. This church is dedicated to Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the patron saint of the town. It is the church where Louis XIV and Maria Theresa of Spain got married in 1660. Its exterior is austere, with an imposing tower and high walls, which contrast with the delicacy of its wooden galleries and vault. It is one of the most important churches in the Basque Country.
